Kohala Grown Market Opens in Hawi
An innovative boutique market is breathing new life into the historic Kohala Trade Center (55-3419 Akoni Pule Highway) in Hawi town! The Kohala Grown Market is a small, family-run shop that is putting the focus on what’s fresh and local in North Kohala.
“We envisioned Kohala Grown Market as a way to bring local agriculture full-circle in our community,” explains co-owner Leo Woods. The market is a place for locals and visitors to taste the bounty of Kohala and it’s surrounding areas. 100% of the products carried in store are grown and made on Hawai’i Island, many of them from North Kohala’s small family farms.
Seasonal tropical fruits are a favorite (right now, mangoes are flying off the shelves), but visitors can also find local, organic veggies, fresh bread, spices, locally-brewed kombucha, natural beauty products, books and gifts.
Kohala Grown Market serve as a way to “add visibility and value to our farmers and their products through education and awareness,” Leo says, “while keeping the farmers in their fields.”
